Joergen comes to UK!

I was delighted when Joergen Schonherr accepted my invitation to come to the UK to sail at the East Coast Championship held at Medway YC.

It was great to show off what great and active domestic racing we have in the UK, with a well organised event in blustery conditions.

With Katie Cole as our third crew member it was a lot of fun to sail with Joergen, one of the Dragon classes brightest stars. Although we eventually won the event it was not an easy victory with the result still undecided going into the final race of the 7 race series.

There are many similar regattas worldwide in the Dragon class which bring together both club racers and world champions. The event showcased the current upbeat nature of the UK class with several fleets cooperating and coming together to make a great weekend, our thanks particularly to Claire and Julian Sowry for coordinating this so efficiently.

Joergen left the UK commenting that the UK fleet just sail, eat and sleep! The race organisers thanked him for coming to the event and asked if he could bring some more of the Danish fleet next year, preferably ones who are not so good!
