Training
in the Netherlands
Over the winter there have been several new additions to
the Dutch and Belgian Dragon fleet.
Petticrows dealer Andre Dupon felt it would be a great kick
start to the new Dragon owners sailing to put together a training
weekend where some of the important basics of Dragon tuning
and handling could be passed on to these sailors.
Petticrows sponsored Martin “Stavros” Payne to
travel to Aalsmeer to run the training camp. Stavros, as well
as being a well season and successful Dragon sailor is also
a trained teacher so was able to pass on his knowledge and
I am sure a few jokes too......
Over April 1st and 2nd, I travelled to Holland to train some
new and interested teams on the Aalsmeer.
The training was arranged by Andre' Dupon and took place over
a cold but fresh two days.
Sailors from 9 different teams came together to try out the
new Petticrow Boat, with a centre
consul that allows the helm easily to move forward when the
boat is settled on each tack.........
Jacob Roosjen, Coen Verhorst, Ulli Kapteina, Walter Schneemann
all arrived with their teams
on day one and found the indoor briefing given by Martin Payne
worthwhile, as he explained
the different rig set-ups, the marking and measurement's of
how to make a Dragon go fast.
Unfortunately, despite a wet and windy effort, it proved too
windy to give any training, so back into the
classroom for Martin to contiue sharing his experience with
all that attend...............
On the second day the weather was much kinder and Twan de
Loos, Boudewijn vd Kroon,
William Klomp, Stefan Huebner and Michel v Cauwelaert all
had a chance to test the new boat
with Martin's guidance from the rear deck. The new boat handled
superbly and as Andre'
transferred each team from his superb motor boat to and from
the Dragon, everyone had an
opportunity to feel the excitement and exhilaration
of the latest Petticrow dream..................
Stavros.
There are a number of experienced sailors who are willing
to run training camps tailored to your needs on an individual
or group basis.
